DHT – PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE (FOR HAIR LOSS)

What’s there to understand? A lot, actually. But we won’t bore you with the detail, or get too science-y. Instead, we’ll school you on DHT (you've probably heard of it), its contribution to hair loss and how our entire haircare range directly addresses it via Patricks Recovery Compound, a blend of 14 ingredients that minimizes hair loss, reinforces existing hair mass and cares for your hair and scalp.

Dihydrotestosterone or DHT, a by-product of testosterone, is the androgenic hormone that causes MPB, which sounds a bit like a rap group from the 80s, but actually stands for Male Pattern Baldness – Public Enemy number one for us.

DHT AND RECEPTORS

DHT binds to receptors during the regression phase of the hair growth cycle, which is the stage at which the follicle shrinks and hair detaches from the skin. This presence of DHT forces the follicle to shrink, creating finer hairs in the process and eventually shrinks the follicle so much it becomes inactive. Baldness, or the beginning of it, ensues.

In come Bio Chanin A, Saw Palmetto and believe it or not, Coffee; 3 ingredients scientifically proven to reduce the presence of DHT and hence, hair-loss. How do they do this? Simple. They block the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, responsible for converting testosterone to DHT.

But that’s not all (in our best as-seen-on-TV voiceover voice). While the presence of DHT is the predominant cause of hair loss, scalp inflammation and irritation plays a role for which we use Unisooth PN-47, Sage and and Kigelia to counteract.

We included Acetyl Tetra-Peptide 3 for its ability to improve hair anchoring and promote fuller, thicker hair by increasing the anagen stage of hair growth, and decreasing the talogen phase, as well as Rosemary, which in a number of studies performs similar to minoxidil (a well-known prescription hair-loss pill) over a 6 month period.
